Join us

We are looking for a skilled website developer specialising in WordPress and WooCommerce to join our team. The ideal candidate will help shape our website development service and the online presence of our clients.

We need someone with the skills and experience to develop custom WordPress themes and plugins, deliver high-performing and engaging eCommerce sites, and communicate well with clients and the wider team.

This is a hybrid role, splitting your time between working from our office in Huddersfield with the team, and working from home.

If this role sounds perfect for you, we’d be happy to share further details and have an informal chat to understand if we’re a right fit for each other.

WordPress & WooCommerce Developer Role

Browndog Agency is a full-service design & marketing agency with over 25 years’ experience of helping clients solve their marketing challenges.

We are now looking to recruit a WordPress & WooCommerce developer who can hit the ground running to join our busy in-house team, based at our offices in Huddersfield.

This hybrid role (2-3 days per week in the office and the rest wfh) will involve working alongside our digital team to support our existing customer base with their website requirements, as well as working on new website projects.

Our current build process involves using Elementor alongside custom development for our client websites so a good understanding of this would be beneficial, however going forward we will be looking to move away from any such system and return to a more “core” approach. This will be using purely custom development with Sage Roots which involves PHP, the Laravel/MVC Framework and Tailwind CSS. So, an excellent understanding of PHP, HTML, JS and jQuery is critical.

  • Work with the design team to convert prototypes & designs into high quality websites using PHP, HTML, CSS/Sass and JS.
  • Work with the whole team to ensure that websites and projects are delivered accurately and on time based.
  • Develop clean, efficient and maintainable code that meets industry standards.
  • Ensure that all elements that are to be editable by clients and non-developers are as easy to use as possible.
  • Ensure that website performance, page speed, SEO rankings and accessibility (where applicable) are core to all work completed.
  • Carry out proper testing across a range of devices and browsers to ensure optimal performance and client testing to help flag any issues or bugs before “go-live”.
  • Push websites live including DNS, server config and hosting etc.
  • Maintain client websites including code and any plugins.
  • Work closely with clients in an on-going capacity to assist with their websites.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience
  • Experience developing and delivering custom WordPress themes and plugins
  • Experience with delivering WooCommerce websites
  • Good knowledge of WordPress fundamentals / architecture, including custom post types, taxonomies, hooks etc.
  • Plugins such as ACF, WP All Import / Export etc
  • PHP, HTML, CSS / Sass and JS / jQuery
  • MySQL and database experience
  • Basic understanding of JSON / REST API’s
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaborative skills

What we’re offering

  • Salary £28k – £35k depending on experience
  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) – this includes 3 days to be taken over Christmas to New Year during office closure
  • Extra day holiday for each year of service up to maximum of 30 days holiday
