How can you reach a global audience with your brand? Social media.

As of January 2023 the UK had 57.1million active social media users (Statista). Globally, over 4.74 billion people across the world have an active social media account. This is great news for marketers looking to expand their reach and meet customers on a platform that suits them.

Social media marketing has transformed the way that businesses interact with their customers and has created a new way to engage with audiences.

At Browndog, we understand the importance of using multiple channels to communicate with your customers, which is why we think social media presence matters.

Organic vs paid social media. What’s the difference?

Organic social media is what most of us do with our personal accounts; sharing content with our followers without spending money on advertising or boosting their reach. Organic posts can include text, image and video content shared with your followers/connections or a broader social media audience that may find you through search or hashtags.

Most social media platforms offer a paid advertising service and this is what we mean by paid social media. You’ll assign a budget and define your target audience (based on geographical location, interests, demographics, etc.) and reach a much wider audience than a normal organic post would. Paid social media can take on different forms, including promoted posts, sponsored ads, display ads and even influencer or affiliate marketing.

Why should you use social media marketing?

It’s no surprise that social media has immense reach and offers a host of benefits, however it’s important to decide what is right for your business and understand how it will fit into your strategy to achieve your goals.

We’d love to have a strategy session with you to get under the skin of your business and figure out if social media is right for you, and indeed which platforms.

But before you do that, here’s just some of the reasons why we love social media as part of any solid marketing strategy:

Frequently Asked Questions: Social Media Marketing

There are many elements that make up social media management, and the cost will depend on which of these elements you would like us to manage.

Our packages are a suggestion only, and what we actually prefer is for you to chat to us about your goals, so that we can agree what will work best for you. You may want to produce your own content and have us share it on multiple platforms for you. Alternatively, you may want us to manage your overall strategy but use your own in-house resources to post and monitor your social media.

We’re happy to agree on a package that suits you best, but we want to be transparent about costs so we’ve provided the above as a guide. We’ll always give you a detailed quotation before starting any work.

One of the main differences that you will find between organic and paid social media is reach. You will typically find that your organic posts will only ‘reach’ your existing followers and connections, whereas paid social media can reach a much wider audience through targeted advertising.

Another benefit of paid social media is the ability to control who sees your content. Using a paid medium such as sponsored content or remarketing, you are able to target specific demographics and interests, ensuring that your messaging is seen by the right audience.

Of course the biggest difference between the two is cost. Using organic methods means there is no official cost associated (other than the investment to create the content and manage the distribution/posting), however using paid social media requires allocating a budget and monitoring your spend, in addition to producing the content.

Both organic and paid social media can be effective tools for your business, depending on your overall goals and your resources. We’ll outline the benefits of social media for business below, but there’s no doubt that using social media can help you to build relationships, community, and reach a much larger audience than traditional advertising methods.

Increased brand awareness – these days it’s more surprising to see a business that doesn’t have at least one social media platform, but there’s nothing worse than finding one that hasn’t been updated in a few months. By regularly posting relevant and engaging content, you can connect with potential customers that you may not have otherwise reached.

Improved customer engagement – social media is a great tool for interacting with customers and building relationships. In many B2C businesses, social media is the first place a customer may look to interact with a business. By responding to comments and messages, you can show that you value your customers and you can also benefit from real-time feedback on products or services.

Cost-effective marketing – compared to traditional advertising methods, social media marketing can be a really cost effective way of reaching your specific audience. With the right strategy, you can reach your target audience directly with minimal cost and less wasted ad spend.

Increased website traffic – ultimately, social media is a place to share content that drives traffic back to your website. Got a new blog? Share it on your social media. Got a new product or service to offer? Link it back to your website. Using social media to drive your website traffic ensures the right audience lands on your page and engages with the rest of your content, which leads to more sales and enquiries.

Improved search rankings – sharing regular content on social media amplifies your visibility, improves your traffic and can help generate backlinks. This signals to Google (and other search engines) that your website is credible and reliable – key criteria that shows your site is trustworthy and helps you rank better.

Provides another platform to showcase your expertise – social media gives you a platform to show that you’re an expert in your industry. By regularly producing and sharing valuable and informative content, you can position yourself as a thought leader. This gives you greater control over your own narrative online and helps to build a positive reputation.

Enhanced customer insights – in some ways, social media is like a giant focus group for your business. Utilising social media analytics can help you to better understand customers’ behaviours and preferences so that you can tailor your marketing strategy to their needs.

How much does social media management cost?

  • Social media strategy session – £385
  • Twice weekly updates across 1 platform – £480
  • Complete social media management – £725 (plus one off build cost)
  • Paid social media per campaign – £350 management fee per month, plus suggested £30 per day spend.

When will you see a return on your social media investment?

Unfortunately there is no science behind social media that can guarantee a return on investment within a set timeframe. However, all platforms offer reporting functionality that enables us to track your engagement levels from visibility, through to clicks and direct attribution. We will monitor these carefully and provide you with monthly reporting and insights to make sure your investment is well spent. Don’t forget, we can always adjust spend and frequency.

Which social media platforms should you use?

Choosing which social media platforms to use for your business is a decision to be made once you have identified your target customer personas. Using this information, we’ll analyse the information and identify where that audience (depending on age, sex, interests and other demographics) is most likely to view your content. We’ll also use competitor research to identify similar businesses that are doing well on social media in your industry and advise on best practice.

How often should you post on social media?

The answer to this question very much depends on your business, your messaging, your target audience, and the platform/s you are using. For example, many businesses find that posting on Facebook up to twice a day can yield excellent results, however the average business on LinkedIn is advised to post a few updates only during the working week. Twitter for example, is so fast paced that brands can post up to 5 times per day, in addition to responding to their community and providing answers to messages.

When it comes to your business, we’ll work on best practice and use a trial and error approach to figure out what works for your audience.
