Welcome to our new series of blogs, getting to know the team. Our team is the most important aspect of Browndog, bringing together over 100 years of combined experience, each with their own skills and expertise (and quirks). Introducing our Web Designer and Developer, Sam Childerson…
Who are you and what’s your role?
Hi, my name is Sam and I’m a Web Designer and Developer.
Tell us some background…
I started as an apprentice in Digital Marketing after a brief stint at the University of Huddersfield studying Graphic Design. Now, five years later I have progressed in my role and taken on website development in addition to website design.
What kind of projects do you enjoy working on?
I’ve recently worked on multiple projects that have allowed me to work on brand development as well as website design. I enjoy seeing the brand take shape and using that to underpin the website development. I appreciate being able to work on a job from the very beginning – with the brief and initial concepts – to the launch of a brand-new website at the end.
I recently completely redeveloped the brand and website for Lancastria LLP, a flat roofing provider to contractors across the UK. As part of this project, I redeveloped the logo to bring clarity to its design and created new guidelines to modernise the brand.
This was a large project that saw the new brand being rolled out across uniforms, livery, product labels and customer communications. Once the brand had been refreshed, we needed to combine three websites into one, to showcase their range of waterproofing, hoists, tools and ancillaries.
There’s nothing better than working on a project like this and seeing it succeed, getting great feedback from the client and their customers.
What projects have you worked on this year?
Throughout 2022, I worked on a variety of e-commerce and brochure style websites for both new and existing clients. I’ve recently worked to update the website of our existing client, Calderdale College, to add new accessibility features such as a new course search.
Where in the world would you like to visit?
I recently travelled around Canada for 3 weeks in a camper van and would like to travel more. I’d like to do the NC500 in Scotland, Route 66 in America, and visit Switzerland.
What unpopular opinion do you have?
Bovril is better than Marmite.
What are you loving at the moment?
I’m currently reading Long Way Round, by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. It’s about their travels from London to New York on motorbikes. I’ve also just started learning to ski and I hope to book a trip soon!
How do you spend your free time?
I enjoy keeping active, so you can often find me running, hiking or eating!
What’s a life goal of yours?
I’d like to buy a house and have my own renovation project. I’d also like to travel and see more of the world.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I’m a night owl that wants to be an early bird but it’s never going to happen.
