Kirklees Council
Winter is here…

Creating an animation

Kirklees Council has a range of initiatives to keep their residents up to date with all the latest local news. They wanted a new way to spread the word about their ‘Gritter Twitter’ social media and to highlight ways that the public can keep safe during wintertime.

The Brief

Browndog was asked to create an animation that brought the season to life. With tips to help both the public and the council stay safe and continue to work during the snowy months.

Start with storyboarding

We always start our animations with a storyboard, which sets out the look and feel, along with how your script would be interpreted and displayed. For Kirklees, we went for a flat illustration style, with a large range of colours in slightly muted tones, which reflected the winter season.

Sleek transitions are key to an engaging animation (plus they are really fun to come up with) so the storyboard also included how the different elements would move, change and interact with each other.

Tis’ the season

We wanted the animation to feel comforting and reflect the winter season that Kirklees experience each year. We included falling snow, warm fires, wintery street views, and friendly snowmen.

It was also essential that we got across all the important information; encouraging residents to park responsibly allowing gritter trucks down the streets and to wrap up warm in the cold weather.
Community spirit
Of course, with the year being 2020, people are finding they need more help than ever, so we made sure to reference the difficulty of this year and how we can still work together safely.
Getting involved with the local community or even making small changes to help key workers do their jobs, is all vital to keeping safe and happy this winter.

“Browndog were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They were able to creatively and expertly bring my vision to life, talking me through any points that I wasn’t sure of. They handled all of my amendments with cheerful grace and professionalism. I am very happy with the finished result and would thoroughly recommend the agency to anyone with design needs. I sincerely hope to work with Browndog again in the near future.”
