Who is Winder Power?

Winder Power is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of power and distribution transformers, with over a century of expertise in delivering high-quality power solutions. The Winder Power Group includes three key divisions: 

  • Winder Power: Specialists in the design, testing, construction, and management of power systems – from distribution transformers and switchgear for commercial spaces to large-scale transformer solutions for blue-chip companies.
  • Winder Power Transformer Services: The Group’s site services division, providing a comprehensive range of services to businesses of all sizes, including major utilities and specialist contractors.
  • Newton Derby: A manufacturer and supplier of bespoke generators for sectors such as rail, military, aviation, and power generation, offering high-frequency alternators, permanent magnet generators and synchronous machine exciters.

The Brief

Winder Power was ready to reposition itself to reflect a growing emphasis on sustainable and eco-friendly power generation. As their agency of nearly 20 years, we were as excited as they were about the prospect of giving them a fresh new identity to support this next phase of growth.

As an established business with a rich history spanning over 100 years, Winder Power has continuously demonstrated its commitment to innovation, exceptional customer service, and industry-leading standards. In the last decade, following a management buy-out in 2011, the company experienced significant growth and transformation.

With a new focus on sustainability, it was time for Winder Power’s brand to evolve, aligning with their strategic shift towards greener energy solutions and cementing their leadership in the future of power generation. 

Embracing bold new brand concepts

The driving force behind Winder Power’s rebrand was to align their identity with their strategic focus on renewables and sustainability. Primarily working with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and larger industrial customers, the rebrand needed to reflect both the technical expertise and eco-conscious approach that set Winder Power apart in their industry.

Having worked with Winder Power since 2006, we knew their brand intimately. Whilst we anticipated a conservative preference given their longstanding heritage, the Winder Power team surprised us by embracing our more vibrant and bold concepts. 

This decision signified their confidence in the company’s future and their readiness to make a statement within their market.

The new brand brings energy and impact, representing a significant departure from their previous identity. By blending dynamic colours, bold typography, and refreshed visual elements, the brand communicates innovation, growth, and sustainability.

Crucially, it resonates with where their customer base is heading – a market increasingly focused on greener and smarter energy solutions. 

Looking the part

A brand refresh is only as impactful as its application, and Winder Power fully embraced their new identity, implementing it comprehensively across their entire estate. The vibrant brand transformed their presence, spanning:

  • Workshop and factory interiors, creating a cohesive and inspiring environment for their teams.
  • External signage and vehicle livery, ensuring their brand was visible and recognisable in every setting.
  • Transformer conservators, applying the brand to their products, demonstrating attention to detail.
  • Stationery, marketing literature, presentations, and digital assets, maintaining consistency across all touchpoints.
  • A brand new website – a commitment to their digital visitors, which also perfectly complemented their offline presence.

This meticulous implementation not only enhanced their physical and digital presence but also reinforced their positioning as a forward-thinking leader in power generation.  

Elevating the visitor experience

As part of the rebrand, we designed and developed a new website to elevate Winder Power’s digital presence. A standout feature of the website is an engaging and interactive timeline showcasing the company’s rich history, spanning over a century of innovation and excellence.

The design of the website was perfectly aligned with the refreshed brand, ensuring consistency with offline marketing materials for a holistic and integrated approach. 

From the dynamic visuals to user-friendly navigation, every aspect of the site was carefully crafted to reflect Winder Power’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and customer engagement.

This cohesive approach ensured that visitors experienced a seamless journey, whether interacting with Winder Power online or in-person. 

Turnover has doubled

Within three years, Winder Power’s turnover has doubled, a powerful testament to their commitment to growth and innovation. The revitalised brand allowed them to “punch above their weight,” presenting a polished and dynamic image that aligned with their ambitious aspirations.

Their unwavering dedication to embedding the new identity across their operations demonstrated the power of a cohesive brand strategy, creating a striking, hard-hitting presence that resonated with both existing and prospective customers.
