A visit back to 1999 for our birthday…

In case you missed it, it’s our 25th birthday this month, and we couldn’t help but reminisce about how much things have changed since our agency officially began in 1999.

There’s no marketing advice in this blog, but we hope you’ll all indulge in a short time capsule, exploring what life was like on the 1st of March 1999…

If you followed the charts, you’d have been singing along to the number one song “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears. Released on September 29th 1998, the song became a worldwide hit and earned triple-platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), making it the country’s best-selling single of 1999.

For those football fans, Leeds United beat Leicester City 2:1 in the Premier League. There were 18,101 attendees at the match, and Kewell and Smith were the scorers for Leeds United.

If you were shopping for groceries on that rainy 9°C Monday, you’d have found that the average loaf of sliced white bread cost 49p and a pint of milk was 34p. And, if you decided to pop into your local pub to escape the weather, a draught pint of lager would have cost you £1.92!

In a statement that makes some of us feel a little old, our in-house Copywriter Meg Bradbury wasn’t even born yet (and wouldn’t be for a further 6 months!)

This was the year that the euro currency was introduced in 11 of the European Union’s 15 member states. Can you name those that took on the euro? Or perhaps the 4 that didn’t?

Finally, this is where it all began for us. Browndog Agency was formed on that rainy day in Huddersfield, and we started to build on our years of experience that would carry us forward to 25 years of supporting you, our clients.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing our best advice, our favourite projects, and some studio insights to celebrate this achievement that our entire team are so proud of. We hope you’ll join us in this celebration and we can’t wait to share more with you throughout the year!

Tell us about your project…
