Following exciting news of the i4.0 Hub, Calderdale College has secured another round of government funding to develop a digital creative skills hub at Dean Clough in Halifax.

The new hub is due to be launched in time for the start of the next academic year, playing a huge role in Calderdale’s Year of Culture 2024.

Mill Studios has been funded by the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) and will support students from the age of 16+ who aspire to work within the digital creative industries. As recently reported by The Business Desk, the hub will bring the very latest technologies in theatre, film and TV production, music and gaming, to deliver a pipeline of local talent to the sector.

Our challenge from a branding perspective was to bring together the heritage and landmark status of Dean Clough, with the forward thinking, high tech nature of the courses on offer. This led to a naming process that explored each of the reference points, terminology linked to the creative sectors represented, and then developed an encompassing theme. The answer revealed itself as Mill Studios became the firm favourite amongst all of the stakeholders.

Calderdale College will create the new high tech hub, which will be the home of film & TV production, design and editing, E-Sports and games design courses. There will also be collaborative space for events and exhibitions.

The hope of this new facility is to address employers’ needs and give young people new opportunities to build skills that will increase career opportunities and help them learn new skills.

The new courses will be available from September 2024 and are expected to give students the skills and knowledge needed to secure high-paying job roles in branding and marketing, programming, live-streaming, analysis and other admirable positions.
