Getting to know the team: Browndog’s canine companions

Megan Bradbury

Welcome to our series of blogs, getting to know the team. Our team is the most important aspect of Browndog, and it wouldn’t be complete without our furry colleagues. In fact, we value them so much that we even named the company after one! Introducing our canine companions Scout, Olive, Monty, Frank and Penny.

Scout

Who are you?

Scout is a 6 year old tricolour Border Collie who loves nothing more than exploring the great outdoors, whether that be chasing a ball or a stick through the fields, or embarking on a three day expedition in the Lake District with her dad Alexis. When she’s not out and about on adventures you’ll often find her snoozing on the sofa or staring longingly out of the living room window, but when the time comes to get her lead on to venture outside she’s guaranteed to be sitting by the front door waiting for you.

Who do you belong to?

Alexis, Vikki, Luke and Megan

What are your favourite things?

Scout is never happier than when she’s on a walk with one of her favourite people and chasing after a ball or a stick. She also enjoys going running and mountaineering with her dad. If you’re on the move you don’t even need to ask, she’s ready and eagerly waiting.

As much as she loves to be active, Scout knows how to relax and unwind and is very partial to a snooze, often tucking herself into one of her family member’s beds. She knows how to get comfy and will happily rearrange cushions and blankets to create the perfect spot for chilling out.

Scout loves her people, you’ll know if you’re one of her favourites as she’ll welcome you with a quick cuddle and a lick on the nose, she may even present her pink belly for a tickle.

What are your least favourite things?

There are a few things that Scout doesn’t enjoy, such as the vacuum cleaner and any sudden, loud noises. As she’s a herding dog, Scout doesn’t like it when somebody appears to be leaving the herd, she prefers everyone to be together!

Olive

Who are you?

Olive is a 5 year old black Cocker Spaniel (shown with her sister Florence) who loves to receive attention in the form of cuddles, pats, tummy tickles or a game of fetch. Even though she’s happy to spend her time being fussed over, Olive is also a lover of the outdoors and is always eager to go for a walk through the local countryside with her dad. She’s also partial to a roll in a freshly brewed cow pat! She spends office days being loved and adored by the Browndog team as well as any visiting clients, and helping everyone by taking litter out of the bins to parade around the room.

Who do you belong to?

Andrew M, Kate and Phoebe

What are your favourite things?

Olive’s favourite thing is love, and she is happy to take it in any form, whether that be through pets and affection or mental stimulation. Olive loves to be Andrew’s shadow, and will happily follow him wherever he goes, or just sit quietly on his knee.

She also loves to search through the bins for treasure, which she proudly parades around the room and shows to everyone. Treasure often refers to a crisp packet or yoghurt pot, but she is congratulated at her discovery regardless.

Olive enjoys a game of fetch, and if she makes a particularly impressive catch she’ll sometimes give herself an “awoowoo” to celebrate!

What are your least favourite things?

There is very little that upsets Olive, she’s a very happy-go-lucky girl. Her only enemy is the vet!

Monty

Who are you?

Monty is a 3-year-old chocolate and tan smooth haired miniature Dachshund. As a scent hound and prized hunter, living in the countryside of the Holme Valley suits Monty down to the ground, and he’s very close to it! He likes nothing more than to survey the fields, mentally documenting and studying every scent he encounters. Despite his small size, Monty loves exercise, frequently begging his owners to take the longer walk. Like all Dachshunds, he can be a stubborn beggar, but his affection and friendly personality more than makes up for that.

Who do you belong to?

Andrew P, Rachel, Jude and Ella

What are your favourite things?

Monty loves to find that blade of sunlight creating a lovely warm spot in the home office, the perfect place to chill out and soak up the sun. Given the chance, he’d lie there forever.

He also loves burrowing in his sister Ella’s bed, the best place for a scent hound is one that reminds him of his favourite people! Monty is also very partial to pig ears and chicken feet.

What are your least favourite things?

Monty is not a fan of the vacuum cleaner, and hates anything to do with water. His other dislike is balls … What’s the point in them?

Frank and Penny

Who are you?

Frank and Penny are 9 and 8 year old miniature Dachshunds. This very cute and happy couple have produced two litters together and are in a wonderful committed marriage. They are two very stylish pups who are not averse to dressing up in hats and glasses for the perfect Instagram shot. As long as Frank and Penny are in the company of their favourite people they’re happy to go with the flow, and look good doing it!

Who do you belong to?

Alex Haswell & Georgina Verity (soon to be Alex & Georgina Haswell…)

What are your favourite things?

They love to get warm and snuggly so you will often find Frank and Penny burrowing under duvets or sitting in the perfect sun spot to soak up the rays. The naughty pups are quite partial to eating human food, but sadly this favourite thing cannot become a habit, much to their dismay!

It is very clear by the amount of time that these two spend licking each other that they love each other and are most content spending time together, or they can be found following their humans around the house.

What are your least favourite things?

Frank and Penny prefer each other’s company so they’re not appreciative of spending time around other dogs. They are also very against screaming children, but after having two litters of babies themselves, who can really blame them?

Their nemesis is definitely the postman, closely followed by the vet!

We know you’re here for the dog content, but if you want to find out more about the humans of Browndog, you can meet Eleanor, Sam, Meg and Heather at these links.
